Abstract

Polygala kalunga (Polygalaceae), a new species of subgenus Polygala section Timutua series Timoutoideae, is described from the Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goias State, Brazil. Its infrageneric placement, conservation status, habitat, and phenology are discussed. The new species is compared with the morphologically allied species P. carphoides. Polygala radlkoferi is recognised here as a variety of P. carphoides in a new combination and status. Photos of floral parts, a distribution map and key to identification of these two species are also provided.
