Abstract

A new solution of an eccentric crack off the center line of a rectangular sheet for mode-III is reported in this paper. The solution is different from X.S. Zhang's under general cases since the latter is based on the assumption of symmetry. Actually the assumption implies that the crack is located on the center line of a rectangular sheet. The method proposed in this paper combines the Fourier transform and two Fourier series. The stress intensity factor of the central crack located off the center line of a rectangular sheet is expressed as the Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The uniform loading case is considered in detail for a practical example. Numerical calculations are performed for various sheet configurations, and the results are summarized in a form and a figure.
