Abstract
Repeated restructuring and downsizing i have soured the attitudes of } many American workers, and managements' attempts at explanation have often backfired, further eroding morale and productivity. Confirming evidence is contained in a 1994 survey of management views by Arthur D. Little, Inc. Only 12 percent of companies said that they embarked on downsizing and other changes to improve profitability or to increase shareholder value.
