Abstract

This paper proposes a new single-stage three-phase step-up/down rectifier topology, with low effects on the mains. The circuit achieves an efficiency higher than that presented by other converters of this type, as only one reverse blocking power semiconductor conducts at any time. A sliding mode control of the three-phase input currents using a space vector /spl alpha//spl beta/ current modulator, capable of fast and robust current control, is also proposed. Using this control method, the converter presents high power factor and draws near sinusoidal input currents. A proportional integral (PI) controller is adopted to regulate the output voltage of the converter. This external voltage controller modulates the amplitudes of the current references, which are sinusoidal. The characteristics of the new rectifier are verified with simulation and experimental results.
