Abstract

The conventional eV chargers utilize dual-stage operation for having low step-down capability with discontinuous input current. This paper presents a novel single-stage single phase high step down bifold converter with synchronous rectification while achieving Zero Current switching (ZCS) during turn-on switching transition. The dead zones observed in conventional buck PFC chargers are mitigated in the proposed topology as it assists in providing only half of the output voltage at intermediate bus voltage (IBV) and allows continuous input current with a near-unity power factor. The 1.25kW proposed converter with a step down from 230V AC input to 48V DC with high efficiency is developed, designed and simulated under the MATLAB environment.
