Abstract
We analytically find a new simple α-decay formula for a modified harmonic oscillator with the spherical Coulomb potential by employing Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin approximation in terms of taking into account the Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization condition. We systematically investigate the favored α-decay half-lives of parent nuclei. Our results are in good agreement with the experimental data and other models. We emphasize the importance of shape of the nuclear potential in the examination of α-decay half-lives of the parent nuclei.
