Abstract

A new sesquiterpene, named as 13-hydroxy-3,11-(7αH, 10βH)-acordien-3-one (1), and a known norsesquiterpene 3β-hydroxy-5α, 6α-epoxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (2) were isolated from the seeds of Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchi. The structure of 1 was established by spectroscopic methods. Compound 1 was found to show modest antibacterial activity.
