Abstract

This paper proposes a new scheme for realization of 18-sided polygonal voltage space vector structure for an open-end winding induction motor drive. In the proposed scheme two voltages source inverters with asymmetrical DC link voltages are used for feeding power to the induction motor with open-end stator windings from both ends of the windings. The proposed system has lesser hardware complexity compared to the conventional schemes for generation of 18sided polygonal space vectors due to the reduction in the number of switches and DC sources. As an inherent feature of the 18-sided polygonal voltage space vector structure low-order harmonics are significantly suppressed in the motor voltage. The proposed scheme is validated through simulation and experimentally verified on a laboratory prototype with the help of the digital signal controller TMS320F28335.
