Abstract

This paper presents a new prediction scheme for rotation directions in CORDIC processing. The method is based on approximation of the binary angle input to a number with the arctangent weights (tan/sup -1/ 2/sup -1/). The implementation is designed to keep the fast timing characteristics of redundant arithmetic in the x/y path of the CORDIC processing. Consequently, the proposed /spl sigma/-prediction not only achieves lower latency time and less hardware complexity than previous approaches, but facilitates pipelined operation with high throughput.
