Abstract

In this paper, a new run-length-limited (RLL) (2,7) parity preserving (PP) repeated minimum transition run (RMTR) 4 code is proposed. The proposed code shows better performance in terms of density ratio, RMTR, DC component suppression, flexible adaptation for a partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) [1] system and bit error rate (BER) as compared with (2,10) code [2] (currently applied in storage systems) or (1,7) PP code [3] (highly recommended for next-generation optical recording systems). On the basis of the results of experiments on optical storage systems, the superiority of the proposed code is established.
