Abstract

We spend years studying physiology, pharmacology, and pathology throughout medical school to prepare for competency in residency. Medical schools sprinkle humanities sessions throughout the four years to help nurture our innate compassion and empathy that made us want to pursue this career in the first place. However, despite years of training and preparation, when starting residency interns lack two key elements that are essential to being a good, let alone exceptional, doctor - experience and wisdom.
