Abstract

Araripogon pulchrus sp. nov., a new fossil species of the Diptera family Asilidae, is described and illustrated based on a very well preserved specimen from the Crato Formation (Aptian, Lower Cretaceous) of NE Brazil. This is the second known species of Asilidae from the Crato Formation (from which only one species, Araripogon axelrodi Grimaldi was previously known) and the fourth species of Asilidae known for the entire Mesozoic.
