Abstract
A simple modification of the negative binomial distribution is obtained under the assumption that multiparticle production at high energies can be described as a stationary branching process with immigration. The charged particle multiplicity distributions for e +e − annihilation into hadrons and for inelastic ¯pp collisions at S¯ppS energies are shown to be in excellent agreement with the proposed distribution.
