Abstract
The prototype of a new, single channel, 4-way tip control peroral fiberscope (GIF-P2) was used in 41 pediatric patients. In 14 of 16 patients younger than 2 years and in 24 of 25 of the older patients, the esophagus, entire stomach, pylorus, duodenal bulb, and post bulbar areas were visualized. Retrograde examination of the fundus and esophagogastric junction was accomplished in 39 of 41 patients. The GIF-P2 is judged superior to the GIF-P1 for routine upper gastrointestinal endoscopic examination and for removal of impacted foreign bodies in infants and children.
