Abstract

Treatment of 2-(3-hydroxy-5-phenylpent-4-yn-1-yl)-2-(trimethylsilylmethyl)tetrahydrofuran ( 18) with Co 2(CO) 8 gave the corresponding cobalt complex, which was subsequently exposed to methanesulfonyl chloride and triethylamine in methylene chloride at refluxing temperature to provide the oxocane derivative 20 in 72% yield. This method was found to be applicable for construction of the oxonane framework.
