Abstract
Language endangerment is a growing concern in the world today. The speakers of the less dominant language in the society tends to get more inclined towards the more dominant language because of many reasons. Due to this, the speakers of the less dominant language decreases, eventually leading to the extinction of that languages. In this paper, a probabilistic mathematical model has been proposed to check language shift for the intergenerational language transmission between parents and their offspring based on some factors that has been taken. A Markov chain model is also defined to show the change in language transmission for grandparent and grandchild.
