Abstract

Nowadays, the division of focal plane (DoFP) polarimeter attracts more and more attention due to its compact dimensions, lightweight, simple front-end optical system and real-time capability. However, the instantaneous field of view (IFoV) error is an inherent defect of DoFP polarization imaging system due to the spatial sampling mode of the system. Interpolation methods were put forward to deal with such problems through complementing the missing polarization information in most cases. In this paper, we propose a new polarization image demosaicking method in the frequency domain for DoFP polarimeters. Combined with our previous work, we analyze the frequency characteristics of micro-polarizer array (MPA)-filtered images based on the frequency structure. The least square method is utilized to design filter to reduce the impact of crosstalk, and redundant frequency components are weighed and summed to improve the recovery performance. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of our proposed method, and both PSNR value and visual effects of our method are better than the traditional interpolation methods.
