Abstract

A new type of plastic track detector known as CR-39 has been developed for fast neutron dosimetry. It has been calibrated for 14.8 MeV neutrons under a spectrum of etching conditions. Perpendicular and parallel exposure geometries were employed in these studies. Experiments were carried out to optimize the track development conditions to obtain etch pits with high optical contrast. It has been found that CR-39 is the most efficient fast neutron track detector existing at present. The latent damage trails produced in the detector are highly thermally stable.
