Abstract

A new effect is reported consisting in the frequency shift of self-excited pseudosonic ion waves by resonant laser light absorption in the negative glow of a neon glow discharge. This effect allows it, in principle, to elaborate a very sensitive detection technique for plasma spectroscopy and diagnostics.
