Abstract

Abstract The Mycenaean personal name a-ḳị-a2-ro is now given as the new reading for a[-•]-a2-ro in the tablet from Pylos Jn 478.3. This paper proposes a rendering of the name as Ἀγχίαλος, which is well attested in Homeric epos, and it is interpreted as a nickname derived from the place-name of origin of the individual.
