Abstract

SUMMARY.A new species of the genus Ricardoella, living in the nasal cavities of the South African toad, Bufo regularis, is described. The features in which it differs from the two known species of the genus, R. limacum (Schrank) and R. crassidens (Berlese & Trouessart), are enumerated. It does not occur in large numbers, but does not appear to be uncommon on Bufo regularis. Reasons are given for believing that the mite may be a blood feeder rather than a mucus feeder, thus differing from R. limacum.
