Abstract

The Use of potassium dichromate for the potentiometric titration of cerium III in 12–13.5M phosphoric acid at room temperature has been investigated. The method, which is accurate to ± 0.35 % for 30–120 mg of cerium/50 ml of titration solution, has been applied to the determination of cerium in monazite sand and technical cerium carbonate. Methods have also been developed for the differential potentiometric titration of iron II plus cerium III, vanadium IV plus cerium III, and iron II plus vanadium IV plus cerium III in the same solution.
