Abstract

A small body of high grade iron ore has been located in a granodiorite gneiss - amphibolite suite which is migmatised mainly by sub-concordant sheets of aplite, in Kakun within the SW segment of the Precambrian basement complex of Nigeria. The ore outcrops at a point on the Westerly limb of a NW plunging antiformal fold in the area. Nine spaced ground magnetic anomaly pattern coincident with a zone of the fold limb within which the ore outcrops. Analysis of the anomaly using the gradient - based inversion technique (of Pal 1985) portrays the outcrops as a surface expression of an extensive near - surface sheet of iron ore body concordantly interbanded with the host suite.
