Deutetrabenazine is a formulation of tetrabenazine that contains deuterium. The deuterium dampens CYP2D6 metabolism and increases the half-life of the drug. To evaluate safety and efficacy of deutetrabenazine for the treatment of chorea in Huntington disease, researchers conducted a double-blind study, with 90 patients randomized to deutetrabenazine or placebo.
