Abstract

The results of performance tests of the newly developed fluid AE sensors showed that the sensors have a wide frequency range, have high sensitivity to various AE signals coming from the three cutting zones, and can be used both in tool wear monitoring and in tool breakage identification. It is the successful development of the new types of high sensitivity non-contact fluid AE sensors that solves the difficult problem of tool wear monitoring with low energy AE signal, and also lays a foundation for tool wear on-line monitoring by using the no-contact fluid sensors.
