Abstract

A new N-nitropyrrole, 1,4-dinitro-2-methylpyrrole, has been isolated and identified as one of the active products of the acidic reaction mixture of sorbic acid and sodium nitrite in the rec-assay and growth inhibition tests on bacteria. The various spectral data that led to the proposed structure, and some of its chemical properties are described.
