Abstract

The use of space-division multiple access (SDMA) in the downlink of a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) wireless communications network can provide a substantial gain in system throughput. The goal in such multi-user systems is to design transmit beamforming vectors while limiting the co-channel interference (CCI) to other users. This paper presents a low-complexity transmit beamforming scheme based on adjusting the distribution of interference such that the users with weaker channels would suffer low interference from other users and vice versa. The proposed scheme outperforms the conventional heuristic beamforming schemes in both rate fairness and sum-rate performance.
