Abstract

In this paper, a new extendable multi-input step-up DC–DC converter (MISUC) topology is proposed to efficiently interface multiple (renewable/non-conventional) energy sources of different output characteristics with a common load. This topology provides higher voltage gains by increasing the number of inputs thereby being suitable for a wide range of applications from low to high voltage/power in hybrid energy systems (HESs). Input energy sources are controlled simultaneously to supply the load while adjusting the output voltage at the desired level. The operation and design of the MISUC are presented in different modes and design criteria are fulfilled to achieve a low output voltage ripple (OVR). The performance of the proposed converter is validated by simulation and experimental results.
