Abstract
The perfectly matched layer (PML) is a technique of free-space simulation developed for solving open region electromagnetic problems with numerical simulation methods. However, the original PML will consume a considerable amount computer resources and computing time due to the split-fields. In this paper, a new modified and simple PML without split-field is introduced. A new function f(l) is used to describe the fictitious conductivities associated with the PML. With ingenious settings the FDTD equations in the PML domain will remain the same as the rest, no split-field is in need any more. As a result, with the new modified PML, it is very easy to program in practice, and the computing time will be reduced at the same time the efficiency will be retained. In order to verify the accuracy, a 2D PML performance is developed.
