Abstract

The number of secondary particles emitted in shower jets is plotted as a function of log (tan theta ), and it is shown that the particles are emitted in bunches. These bunches, or 'quanta'', are interpreted as follows: in a high- energy collision, several polarized quanta'' are emitted; each ''quantum'' is identified as a composite baryon-anti-baryon pair, which later decays into pi mesons, K mesons, etc. (T.F.H.)
