Abstract

Abstract A novel simple technique of mode-locking is demonstrated. It uses a nonlinear mirror with intensity-dependent reflection coefficient. The mirror is constituted by a combination of a SHG crystal and a dichroic mirror with high reflectivity for the second harmonic and partial transmission for the fundamental. In a preliminary experiment with a Nd:YAG laser a train of ultrashort pulses has been obtained with individual pulse duration at the second harmonic wavelength of approx. 100 ps.
