Abstract

Protein microencapsulation is difficult because of the sensitivity of proteins to various stresses encountered during the encapsulation process and release period. In an attempt to overcome such difficulties, a new microencapsulation method has been developed based on an interfacial phenomenon between a polymer solution and an aqueous solution, which we call exchange. A dual microdispenser system consisting of two ink-jet nozzles was employed to test the concept. This article describes the concept and advantages of the solvent exchange method.
