Abstract

Abstract A new method based on radial collocation method is presented for propagation of optical fields in fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). The method is suitable for the analysis of radially symmetric structures, e.g., uniform FBGs, apodized FBG and chirped FBGs. For propagation, we have used the split-step non-paraxial method which inherently takes reflections into account and hence, is suitable for FBGs. We have also included examples on the use of FBGs as strain and temperature sensors.
