Abstract
Wideband waveform techniques, such as pulse compression, allow for accurate meteorological radar measurements in a short data acquisition time. However, for extended targets such as precipitation systems, range sidelobes mask and corrupt observations of weak phenomena occurring near areas of strong echoes. Therefore, sidelobe suppression is extremely important in precisely determining the echo scattering region. To solve this problem, a new method that used a code-filter pair to suppress sidelobe was expounded in detail, which used optimal sidelobe suppression code and corresponding sidelobe suppression filter. It compared code-filter pair with Barker code-Matched filter scheme, the results from simulation and the data analysis shown that there did exist optimal sidelobe suppression codes better than the conventional Barker codes. At last it came to conclusion that code-filter method was more proper than conventional scheme in pulse compression for meteorological radar.
