Abstract

Image fusion aims at processing and synthesizing information provided by various sensors. Contourlet is a novel multi-scale geometric analysis tool; it provides many advantages in comparison with conventional multi-resolution analysis. This article proposes a novel method to fuse images based on improved contourlet transform. The fusion rules adopted the local energy method, which can preserve more details in source images and further improve the subjective quality of fused image. In this paper, the experiment of fusing the infrared and visible light images was discussed. Experimental results have evidenced that comparing with traditional image fusion algorithms, the proposed approach can provide more satisfactory fusion outcome.
