Abstract

The gain stability is an important factor to influence the performance of ring laser gyro (RLG). Traditional method is stabilizing the discharging current which has been proved to be incorrect by experiment. Based on the analysis of the physics essence of laser gain, this paper puts forward a new method for gain stabilization using fuzzy-PID control algorithm. Through adjusting the discharging current by optimized control algorithm in real time, the laser gain can be stabilized to a fixed value. The mathematic model of the control process is set up, and the concrete steps of the fuzzy-PID algorithm are given in detail. Simulation and experiments are carried out to test the performance of the system. The results show the RMS precision of laser gain and gyro drift can reach 2.6×10−5 and 4.47×10−3 respectively, indicating that the new method and its control algorithm are effective for gain stabilization, which can enhance the performance of RLG in application.
