Abstract
Significant interest has developed in the investigation of the effect of cosmic rays on human beings in Earth orbit and in high altitude aircraft. These studies are motivated by concern over possible radiation hazards to astronauts and air crews. For dosimetry purposes, lower resolution measurements than are usually undertaken for astrophysical purposes are satisfactory and rapid evaluation procedures are needed. We have carried out a joint experiment combining the techniques used in Dublin for the investigation of heavy cosmic ray nuclei with those used by the Rome group in the study of cosmic ray neutrons and protons in an effort to provide an improved method for such studies. Details of the experiment and initial results will be presented.
