Abstract

In the field of agriculture, where precise and instantaneous measurements of the moisture contents of grains are required this paper shows a new method for measuring the moisture contents by using microwaves of 9·4 GHz, with unhulled and unground grains; the moisture content can be measured continuously if necessary. Moreover, the measurement can be carried out quite independently of the varieties of grains as well as the moisture distribution in the grain that has been dried by hot air. The accuracy is high, the errors being less than ±0·5% in the measurements for both rice and wheat, the moisture contents of which were in the range of 10 to 30% on wet basis.
