Abstract

A new method for the determination of 18-β-glycyrrhetinic acid by means of thin layer chromatography is presented. The technique is applied for the determination in feces from individuals treated orally with 18-β-Gta. To ascertain the reliability of the method, known quantities of 18-β-Gta, ranging from 80–1600 mg were added to 12 samples of stool. The mean recovery was 94.7% with a standard deviation of 5.43. The method seems also useful for 18-β-Gta estimation in serum and other biological materials and may thus contribute to knowledge about the fate of 18-β-Gta in the body.
