Abstract

An interesting technique in tissue characterization is the analysis of the frequency dependence of the power reflection coefficient. The methods used up to now are based on the Sigelman Reid formula1 which is generally valid only in the case of far field analysis and harmonic waves, and which suggests that the reference mean scattered power is obtained upon a metallic plane. The new method proposed here is a pulse echo one and deals with tissue-like media modelled by a continuous distribution of point scatterers. The frequency dependence of the scattering coefficient is assumed not to depend on the spatial coordinates.
