Abstract
Abstract Penicillin sulfoxides (II) are key intermediates in chemical transformations of penicillins to cephalosporins. Oxidation of the sulfur atom in penicillin nucleus (I) to the sulfoxide (II) has been studied and a new economically feasible method developed.
