Abstract

It is very hard to make a prediction of the rather high frequency noise propagating through ducts by FEM or BEM. Then the simple one dimensional method is ordinally used which considers only noise source and sound attenuation. But, this method cannot deal with the acoustic characteristics of branches, reflections, loop duct and so on, therefore it is not applicable to complicated real duct systems. This report presents a new method to predict duct noise by the theory of the acoustic power balance. The method is constructed by the continuity of acoustic power across any duct crossection, and it is considered to be a kind of energy methods. Then it is suitable for analyzing random noise in rather high frequency. By appling to an air conditioning duct system, this method has been proved to be sufficiently reasonable.
