Abstract

The paper describes a method for measuring the geomagnetic field vectorusing a scalar magnetometer and a three-axis flux-gate magnetometerrotating about two defined axes. The proposed method is an alternative toDI-fluxmeasurement (D:declination; I:inclination), which is based on a theodolite-borne one-componentflux-gate magnetometer. The basic idea is that the calibration of themagnetometer and the determination of the field in the direction of therotation axis can be carried out using the same procedure. Requirementsconcerning the three-component magnetometer and the mechanicswill be discussed. The method presented will be compared with theDI-fluxprocedure.
