Abstract

In the present paper, an optical method, called frustrated total reflection (FTR), for measuring the film thickness of mixed lubrication in line contacts is proposed. The principles of FTR are analyzed. The relationship between the reflectivity and the film thickness is derived. The measuring methods and procedures are described.
