Abstract

A direct Zeeman atomic absorption (ZAA) spectrometer was equipped with a DC plasma as atomizer. Traces in solutions were determined by either direct nebulization into the plasma or with the help of a graphite carrier. For solid samples a locked graphite container was used in which a pressed pellet of the sample was placed. Material leaving the container through a small hole is completely atomized by the plasma. With this method traces of Cd in various sewage sludges and maize were determined without chemical pretreatment.
