Abstract

In this paper, a new approach is proposed for designing low-order controllers for large-scale systems. The method is based on Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI), and uses a preliminary low-order controller as the initial step. It is shown that appropriate LMI preconditioners for large-scale systems can be obtained using the relationship between balanced realizations and epsilon decomposition. Simulation results obtained for a large space structure demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach.
