Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new method for circular object detection and location. Based on the fact that if a point C is inside a circular object, then each pair of chords P 1P 2 and P 3P 4 passing through C satisfies the equation: | P 1C | | P 2C | = | P 3C | | P 4C | , the method can find the center point and the radius of each circular object in an input image. The method can also locate circular objects which are defective or partially occluded. The simplicity of the method makes it especially efficient and easy to be applied to various real world applications. Some experimental results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
