Abstract

Smart cards are vulnerable to both invasive and noninvasive attacks. Specifically, non-invasive attacks using power measurements to extract the cryptographic key have drawn a lot of negative publicity for smart card usage. Side-channel attack methods for encryption circuits are being discussed. Point out unique masking method (MM) can't protect the first two rounds and the last two rounds from high-order differential power analysis. A new improved Unique Masking Method was first proposed. It use sense amplifier based logic (SABL) for a DES circuit. The circuit can ensure a highly security with reasonable area and power consumption. The theory of UMM and experiments shows its efficiency.
