Abstract

A new genus and species of crustacean parasite, closely related to a parasite Basipodella harpacticola Becker, 1975, found on the harpacticoid copepod Pseudomesochra minor Becker, 1974, is described from a female ostracod Metavargula mazeri Kornicker, 1979. These parasites are Maxillopoda (Branchiura, Mystacocarida, Copepoda, and Cirripedia) and it is postulated they are cirripeds with characters in common with both the Rhizocephala and Ascothoracica. This is the first record of a crustacean parasite from an ostracod host that is neither a copepod nor an isopod.
