Abstract

This paper describes a new Coplanar Waveguide Continuous Transverse Stub (CPW-CTS) antenna array design with unidirectional radiation pattern, good impedance matching and beam steering capabilities. New designs features include providing connecting patches on the ground plane section for return currents and hence enabling broader band leaky wave type radiation, the use of metamaterial, mushroom-type, ground plane to provide unidirectional radiation pattern, and the integration of Negative Refractive index (NRI) phase shifter to provide been steering capabilities. Simulation results show good performance in the 2.45 GHz WLAN applications, and beam steering of about 23° using three-element array. Details of the design procedure and analysis of the trade offs involved are described.
